MACCLESFIELD SILK MUSEUM
July 29–August 8
11–5pm
On 18 May 1980, Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division, died at home in Macclesfield.
The Unknown Pleasures exhibition will mark the 30 year anniversary of his passing. A tribute to the singer from friends and colleagues, the exhibition will feature the music and lyrics of Joy Division, personal exhibits, art and installations inspired by their music and an indepth look at the life and work of the singer and band that shaped the future of pop music and culture.
The exhibition is part of a wider festival which has been developed by the Silk Heritage Trust, Macclesfield, and is curated by the music writer, Jon Savage, who produced Joy Division, the documentary released in 2008 and has written extensively about the band.
Creative consultant is Peter Saville, the designer who fashioned the iconic album sleeves for the band and who was one of the founding directors of Factory Records.
